Homer cycling through the lupines

Image
Sunny day for drive to Homer from Seward along the Kenai River with fishermen at every bridge area. I love lupine flowers and we rode through them to the end of the spit after getting fresh veggies at the farmers market. Marina in Homer Oyster farm in Homer.  Takes 3 to 5 years for oysters to mature. They were delicious.

Seward and Homer

Camping at Seward in resurrection campground on the waterfront.  Amazing! Watching eagles swoop down and catch fish everyday. Watch the cruise ships sail out of port.  This is the site of mile zero Iditarod when the sleds carried vaccine for diptheria, saving the city of Nome. View out camper window.

Williwaw campground and hike to Bryon Glacier

Image
Moved south to Williwaw campground in Chugach state forest and hiked to Bryon Glacier. WOWWWW  reminded us of the ice caves hike we did with Karen and Andrew years ago in the Cascades. Rained hard on our return to the truck so we went over to Whittier for a warm up drive. 2.5 mile tunnel to Whittier. Interesting fishing town. Williwaw campsite Bryon Glacier with Rick next to it 1 lane tunnel shared with trains to Whittier Rick is cold in AK

Hiking and campfires at Eklutna Lake

Image
Hiked Eydlu bena trail along the ridge above Eklutna Lake for 3 miles on a semi clear day. Campfire in the evening, can't say night as there is none in AK in summer.

Matanuska Glacier and Muskox farm

Image
Matauska Glacier visit with short hike. Then onto the Musk Ox farm just north of Palmer. Another great day in AK. The herd of 75 musk ox have great views of the mountains from their fields. Of course I got some musk ox fiber. They corral the beast into a whole body gate system and then hand comb the undercoat. Second most expensive fiber in the world. There were 4 musk ox calves.

Farmers market in Anchorage

Trip up to Anchorage to gather good things from. The farmers market.  We met up with the mushrooms we saw at Palmer mushroom stand. We got white rare White King Salmon, rooms and fresh salad fixing. We also cycled the trail along the shoreline. FUN day. White King Salmon with firepit potatoes

Biking lakeside Eklutna Lake

Had a GREAT day cycling along the lakeside trail. Glad we have big tires on this rutted, rocky trail. FUN. Met other off road riders all while looking at this Glacial lake, saw moose and calf and a wedding.
